Prior to the initial consultation, the office will begin addressing the patient's needs by offering patient education over the phone by an experienced LASIK coordinator. Additional educational materials may also be sent prior to the office visit.

On the day of the consultation, the key examinations for LASIK candidacy are performed immediately: Refraction, Topography, Pupilometry and corneal thickness. After performing a complete eye-history, Dr. Friedman then reviews these findings, and then performs a complete eye examination. He will not only evaluate your eyes, but also your occupation, lifestyle, and expectations from laser surgery. These are all important determinants for the success of vision correction procedures.

If it is decided that you are a candidate for the procedure, a second pre-operative visit is arranged. In addition, the risks and complications of the procedure are discussed. At the second visit, patients are encouraged to ask further questions. Dr. Friedman will repeat the refraction portion of the initial examination, to assure that the correct prescription is put into the laser's computer.

This same attention to detail is performed on the day of the laser treatment. Individualized doses or pre-medication are prescribed, and the laser parameters are rechecked by Dr. Friedman prior to each patient's treatment. Even though Dr. Friedman has performed several thousand LASIK procedures since 1996, at the time of your procedure, yours is the only one that counts!
